Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

Let’s make choosing your wedding floral designer a joyful and effortless experience.

What cities do you work in?

San Francisco, Marin, Berkeley, Oakland, and nearby cities in the Bay Area.

Will you design my floral arrangements, or another designer?

I personally design and create the floral elements for your wedding. For larger events, I will bring a small team of trusted assistants, but I am always hands-on to oversee every detail and ensure it reflects your vision and unique love story.

Does you schedule multiple weddings on the same day?

I only focus on one wedding per day. As a small studio, this guarantees you have my full attention.

How far in advance should services be booked?

Micro weddings can be arranged in as little was 2 weeks if I’m available. Larger services typically have 2–6 months of planning.

When is the busy season?

April to October is popular in the Bay Area. Reservations should be booked as early as possible.

Can you work with my wedding planner?

Yes, I’m happy to work with them.

Initial Consultation

A complementary, 30-minute session on Zoom to meet each other and review the goals for your wedding.

What happens during the initial consultation?

I’ll confirm availability for your date and venue. We’ll discuss your desired floral elements and budget along with your color palette, vibe, and moodboard. If you have special requests or dealbreakers please share them.

How do you choose flowers that match my color palette and budget?

Many varieties bloom year-round so we have options across the color spectrum. In-season flowers are the best way to maximize your floral budget. Out-of-season varieties may be available, but keep in mind importing can cost more.

Which flowers should I avoid?

Some varieties tolerate heat, cold, and sun exposure much better than others. I’ll help you balance selections for indoor/outdoor venues, time of year, and time of day to ensure your flowers stay healthy.

Can you recreate a bouquet/centerpiece from a photo?

Yes, this is a common starting point. Please create a moodboard of photos that inspire you. It helps visualize your ideas and shares them with me. We’ll review and add the elements you’re attracted to our design proposal.

Can you source from local growers?

Some varieties are available from local growers depending on season.

How can I make my wedding more sustainable?

Eco-friendly weddings involve several factors. Domestically grown flowers reduce transportation and storage pollution. Foam-free arrangements can feature reusable, recyclable, or biodegradable materials.

Can you coordinate with my cake designer to add floral decorations?

Yes, cake design coordination is an add-on service. It’s best to connect all parties early.

Design Proposal

A 30-minute session on Zoom to finalize your plan and contract. Preparing your proposal has a $75 fee that counts toward your final bill.

What happens during the design proposal?

The design proposal is the written plan for your wedding based on the initial consultation. I will research and design a proposal that includes includes flower selections and substitutions, color palette, illustration, and a list of arrangements. We’ll also review the pricing and contract to book your event.

Can you work with my budget?

For each package, additional floral elements are available à la carte which gives you flexibility to prioritize your budget where it matters most to you.

Can you substitute flowers to fit my budget?

Substitutions are common and sometimes necessary due to seasonal availability. I have experience helping couples find varieties that match their aesthetic vision and remain true to your budget.

How do you price floral arrangements?

The design proposal will include a cost breakdown. Each arrangement has three cost components: floral products, containers/materials, and labor.

Why is there a fee for the design proposal?

While the initial consultation is complementary, customizing each design proposal takes significant time. I charge a small upfront fee to ensure couples are serious about working with me.

Is the design proposal fee refundable?

The design proposal fee applies to your final bill when you book a package. If not, the fee is non-refundable to cover my time creating your proposal.

Can you create sample arrangements before my wedding?

Yes! After the design proposal, you can order samples as an add-on service. I will create mockups of agreed upon floral elements to review in person. This is a wonderful opportunity to preview your florals, make any adjustments, and ensure we’re all on the same page well before your big day. You may keep the flowers from the review session to enjoy!

Reserving Your Date

Your contract and payment secure your wedding date.

What reserves my wedding date?

Signing the contract and paying the invoice reserves your wedding date.

Does the design proposal fee reserve my wedding date?

No, the fee counts toward your final bill but does not reserve your date.

Flower Market Experience with Jess

If your package includes the market experience, get ready for best smelling morning of your life.

What is the flower market experience?

A unique wedding planning experience for couples to walk the floors of San Francisco’s historic flower market with me. I’ll guide you to the best seasonal varieties and build your palette together in person. As a small studio, this is my special way of ensuring your wedding is personal and exactly how you imagine.

What do I get out of the experience?

Shopping directly with growers is much more tangible than choosing flowers from a book. Couples suddenly realize they have much stronger opinions about flowers than they thought. Being in the market is a sensory experience and it’s a fun, memorable outing.

Afterwards, clients have expressed how excited they feel for their wedding because choosing flowers in person makes it more real.

When is it scheduled?

After your design proposal, we’ll coordinate a time so anything you discover can be ordered in advance.

Materials & Processing

Professional processing and storage ensure your flowers are at peak condition on your wedding day.

How far before the wedding do you create arrangements?

1–3 days is normal for processing. Some blooms need time to open. Arrangements are finalized the day before.

How are the flowers stored before delivery?

I have a temperature-controlled space to keep flowers fresh.

Day-Of Logistics

On your wedding day, we’ll manage the entire installation and coordinate with your vendors.

When will you deliver and install florals?

I will coordinate with your planner on the ceremony’s schedule and photographer’s availability to shoot decorated spaces.

How long does installation take?

1–8 hours is possible depending on the number of floral elements.

Will you stay on-site during the wedding?

Usually no, but moving florals from ceremony to reception (repurposing) is available as an add-on service.

What happens to the flowers and vases after my wedding?

Everything is yours to keep, or offer to your guests to take home. Cleanup is available as an add-on service. Remember to check your venue’s policy regarding decorations left behind. Some venues will compost your florals.

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes, it’s important to protect ourselves and other vendors working on your event.

Payments

Your balance or first installment are due upon signing your contract.

What payment methods you accept?

Credit card and Zelle.

What is the payment schedule?

For proposals under $1000, 100% is due upon signing the contract.

For proposals over $1000, 50% is due upon signing the contract and 50% is due two weeks before your wedding date.

Is sales tax charged?

Sales tax applies to all physical goods in your package (flowers, containers, materials). In San Francisco, the sales tax rate is 8.625%.
